Making the exceptional routine

At Hampden & Co we aim to provide exceptional service to clients who expect the very best every day, so a real enthusiasm for providing this level of service is the first attribute we look for in people who want to come and join us. As a small and growing organisation we look for people who are collaborative, creative and thrive in a service-centred culture, who are:

  • Personal: The banking we offer clients is based on a deep understanding of their goals, circumstances and preferences. Internally we understand what drives and motivates our people, and make sure that everyone is treated as an individual in a way that reflects their unique experience and expertise
  • Professional: Offering our clients clear and creative support with their banking needs is a primary role of our banking team. We expect all of our people to provide a professional service, and we particularly value those with experience of supporting High Net Worth clients
  • Collaborative: An area that our bankers excel at is working alongside other advisers of our clients, to provide a seamless service. This philosophy also applies within the organisation, so we look for people who are good at working across teams
  • Independent: As an independent bank we are free to make decisions more quickly, and continue to evolve how we support our clients in ways that reflect what they tell us they want. So we look for people not bound by convention, and who can create ingenius ways of providing our clients with even better service
  • Family-orientated: Many clients bank with us because we understand how to provide great service both to them personally and to their families. We also understand how critical family is for those who work here and encourage and support a range of flexible working approaches

Meet the team

To help showcase what it is like to work at Hampden & Co we thought it would be helpful to share why some of our people chose to work here, and what they do day-to-day. While we are based in Edinburgh and London, we have recruited people from across the UK and beyond, seeking out those who share our vision of a having a passion for providing exceptional service. To create a bank that our clients love, we need people with a broad range of skills and experience, and the individuals below are some examples of that.

Rory Simpson - Banking Operations Administrator

"I was attracted to working at Hampden & Co as I wanted to start my career in a new and ‘up and coming’ business, where I could take on a much wider range of responsibilities than I would have had at a larger organisation.

As a Banking Operations Administrator, I help our banking team provide clients with exceptional service in a number of different ways. That could be helping make domestic or international payments, or supporting the everyday banking needs of clients who invest in underwriting at Lloyd’s. Beyond the banking team, I also work with our Treasury, Finance, Credit and Compliance functions, so no two days are ever the same.

The support I get from the bank is great, and Hampden & Co are helping me get my Chartered Banking qualifications. In addition to this the visibility I get of the different teams within the bank provides me with plenty of food for thought on where to take my career."

Linda Duthie

Linda Duthie - Associate Banking Director

"I joined Hampden & Co as I really liked the traditional values of the bank. In previous roles the amount of time I had spent with clients had decreased, and having the opportunity to really get to know my clients again was exactly what I was after. I also appreciated the fact that Hampden & Co were wanting to recruit professional and experienced bankers, who were then trusted to manage client relationships on an individual basis, rather than following a more codified approach.

As an Associate Banking Director I support David Bell, one of our Banking Directors, helping him with his clients on a day-to-day basis, which can involve anything from helping them to open accounts to making payments.

I really see my role as helping our clients with anything that may come along, and ensuring that they know that between David and myself the bank can help them in any way we can, and that we are easy to deal with."
